Each transfer case is carefully checked for housing condition, internal wear, seals, and shift components before being approved for sale.
Transfer cases vary by drivetrain and model. We verify your VIN to ensure the correct OEM unit is shipped the first time.
Every transfer case is securely packaged, insured, and shipped with tracking from Rancho Cordova, typically arriving within 3–7 business days.
Transfer cases fail differently in the Rust Belt. The case hangs exposed under the truck, so road salt works on the outside first: the aluminum housing pits, the shift linkage seizes, and the shift motor connector corrodes until 4WD stops engaging. A case nobody can engage is a case nobody services, so the transfer case fluid stays in past its life, the chain stretches and the bearings go. Along the Gulf Coast salt air and humidity reach the same connectors and seals more slowly.
Matching matters more here than in most parts. A part-time case locks the front and rear axles together and must never run on dry pavement; a full-time or AWD case has a center differential and can. Fit the wrong one and the driveline binds through every corner. Electronic and manual shift versions are not interchangeable either, and a mismatch throws a transfer case control code that lights the dash. That is why we match on your VIN.
What buyers ask us most. Call 1-800-606-1107.
It takes drive from the transmission and splits it between the front and rear axles. On a two-wheel-drive vehicle there is nothing to split, which is why only 4WD and AWD vehicles are built with a transfer case at all.
A four wheel drive transfer case comes in two types. A part-time case locks the front and rear axles together, so it is for loose surfaces only. A full-time or AWD case has a center differential that lets the axles turn at different speeds, so it can stay engaged on pavement.
Not with a part-time case. Locked front and rear axles fight each other through every corner, which scrubs tires and loads the driveline. Shift back to two-wheel drive as soon as you are off the loose surface and back on pavement.
Not one we list. Road salt attacks the housing, seals and shift linkage from outside, so every donor unit is inspected at those points before it enters inventory. Pitted housings, seized linkages and weeping seals do not get sold.
It depends on the unit, so check your quote before ordering. Every listing states what is included — bare case, or case with the shift motor and sensors — and our specialists confirm the exact contents with you at quote stage.
Wrong-part returns carry a 25% restocking fee, which is exactly why we match on VIN rather than an interchange number. Confirm your 17-digit VIN and the drive type with our specialists before you approve the order and it stops being a risk.
